NYC Subways, Buses and Staten Island Railway to Operate on Saturday Schedule
LIRR and Metro-North to Operate on Sunday Schedule, With Off-Peak Fares in Effect All Day; Metro-North to Operate Getaway Trains on Wednesday, July 3
Scheduled Maintenance on Bridges and Tunnels Requiring Full Lane Closures to Be Suspended 1:00 p.m. July 2 Through Friday, July 5
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced service details for the upcoming July 4 holiday.
For Independence Day, Thursday, July 4, New York City Transit (NYCT) will run on a Saturday schedule and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Metro-North Railroad will run on a Sunday schedule. As a reminder, the LaGuardia Link Q70 bus, with connections to the LIRR from Woodside station and thesubway lines from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av station, is fare free to and from LaGuardia Airport until further notice.
Service details for each agency are below:
New York City Subway and Staten Island Railway
On Thursday, July 4, NYC subways and the Staten Island Railway will operate on a Saturday schedule.
Full length trains will operate on the Rockaway Park Shuttleto accommodate increased ridership to the beach.
Between approximately 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Rockaway Park Shuttletrains will extend service to operate between Rockaway Blvd and Rockaway Park, stopping at Aqueduct, Aqueduct Racetrack, and Howard Beach – JFK Airport stations.
To accommodate increased ridership to the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks display, service will be bolstered on the,and the 42 St Shuttlein the evening.
Select additionalandtrains are planned to operate at the conclusion of the fireworks.
There are planned subway service changes to accommodate signal modernization projects and scheduled maintenance work. Customers are advised to check the MTA app or new.mta.info for real-time service updates and alternatives to help plan their trip.
Brooklyn-boundtrains will run via the F line between W 4 St-Wash Sq – Jay St-MetroTech to accommodate ongoing work on the Eighth Avenue Line starting at 9:45 pm until 5 am July 5.
Coney Island-boundtrains in Brooklyn will bypass Avenue I, Bay Pkwy, Avenue N and Avenue P to accommodate ongoing work on the Culver Line.
trains will operate between Church Av and Nassau Av. Free B94 shuttle buses operate between Nassau Av and Court Sq.
In Queens, Manhattan-boundtrains bypass 169 St to accommodate track maintenance at the station.
New York City Buses
On Thursday, July 4, New York City buses will run on a Saturday schedule.
Customers should expect delays on all routes near the Hudson River on the evening of July 4 due to the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks display.
Long Island Rail Road
On Thursday, July 4, the LIRR will operate on a Sunday schedule, with off-peak fares in effect all day.
Since the opening of Grand Central Madison, systemwide service has increased by 41%, and notably, weekend service increased 55%, so customers have more options now with the opening of the second terminal in Manhattan.
Getting to Montauk
On Tuesday, July 2, the 5:13 p.m. train from Penn Station to Speonk will be extended to operate all the way to Montauk, arriving in Montauk at 8.30PM.
On Wednesday, July 3, the “Cannonball” train will operate, in addition to the 5:13 p.m. train from Penn Station to Speonk will be extended to operate all the way to Montauk. An additional train to Montauk will operate departing Jamaica at 7:16 p.m., stopping at Patchogue, Mastic-Shirley and all stops to Montauk, arriving in Montauk at 9.49PM
On Sunday, July 6, the LIRR will have an additional westbound train from Montauk to Jamaica, departing Montauk at 8:22 p.m., making all stops to Westhampton and then arriving in Jamaica at 10:51 p.m.
Metro-North Railroad
Metro-North will operate getaway trains during the afternoon on Wednesday, July 3, for customers looking to get a head start on the holiday weekend.
On July 4 the railroad will operate on a Sunday schedule with off-peak fares in effect all day. Metro-North will add one extra New Haven Line train to its schedule, departing Grand Central Terminal at 11:13 p.m., to accommodate people who plan to attend the Macy’s Fireworks. The express train will make stops at Harlem 125th street, express to Westport, Fairfield, Fairfield Black-Rock, Bridgeport, Stratford, Milford, West Haven, and New Haven.
MTA Bridges and Tunnels
Daytime scheduled maintenance requiring full lane closures will be suspended beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2 through 6:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5.
Critical roadwork may be permitted during overnight hours at times when traffic permits. Maximum roadway availability will be maintained during times of peak travel.
